Demo at Artisan-Santa Fe Art Supply Store: April 17th, 1:30 - 3:30 (Free to the public) Artisan-Santa Fe 2601 Cerrillos Road Santa Fe, NM 87505 Don Finkeldei will demonstrate the way he paints landscapes on location (and in the studio). He uses a very limited palette with few colors, just the basic primary red, yellow and blue. It’s a much simpler way to understand color and value relationships, especially for beginning artists. Gray moderators are also mixed from the three primaries which allows easy manipulation of color, intensity and value. Don’s approach to painting is to do most of the work mixing paints on the palette BEFORE applying paint to the canvas. He creates “pools” of paint for major objects keeping in mind value, intensity and color relationships between the objects in light, shadow and distance. The result is a painting that can be executed quickly (once the paint is mixed and you start painting).
