The class objective is to learn how to paint with a limited palette with the use of premixed neutral and chromatic grays mixed from a limited palette. We will also spend a lot of time on the practical theory, technique and approach.
1 Understanding value, hue, chromatic intensity and the relationships of each with distance into the painting (recession).
2 Mixing neutral and chromatic grays from a limited palette. Having these grays available will improve your hue/value/intensity accuracy and speed up the painting process.
3 Starting a painting. The sketch and different types of sketching/massing techniques.
4 Composition and selection.
5 The art of creating depth and recession.
6 Types of light and value planes.
7 Understanding edges (soft, hard and lost) and using them effectively.
8 Understanding how, when and where to use reserve in your painting.
Don will also do several demo's and provide individual attention throughout the class along with Question and Answer sessions.

A 3 hour 22 minuite Instructional video by Don Finkeldei with emphasis on using a limited palette with premixed gray modifiers.
Learn how to use a limited palette with pre-mixed gray modifiers. The palette consists of cadmium red light, cadmium yellow light ultra-marine blue, alizarin, viridian and titanium white.
Pre-mixing neutral grays and grays with hues at different intensities and values will help you to paint faster with more accuracy.
In this video you will see how I prepare a limited palette, premix gray modifiers, prepare and execute the sketch and paint a larger painting from a field sketch
